CRESCENT CITY, Calif. — There may finally be a breakthrough coming in the nearly 4-year-old missing persons case of Max Greenfield, a Brookings man who disappeared in March of 2018. The Del Norte County Sheriff's Office announced this week that it anticipates "significant progress" in the investigation in the coming weeks.

Greenfield had been staying with his family in Brookings when he went missing around St. Patrick's Day of 2018, and they quickly made a report to the Curry County Sheriff's Office. Almost immediately after the initial report, law enforcement revealed that Greenfield had been spotted on security camera footage outside of the Lucky 7 Casino in Smith River, California.

In the footage, Greenfield can be seen speaking to another man before walking across the parking lot with him before he disappears from view. Even though law enforcement indicated that they'd interviewed the other man seen in the footage, Greenfield's trail essentially went cold.

As the months dragged on, Greenfield's family came to believe that he was no longer alive, but continued to work on keeping his case circulating so that they could find closure.

After years without any real updates to the case, the Del Norte County Sheriff's Office said on Tuesday that it had received "new relevant information" and is looking at new potential evidence in the case.

"DNSO investigators will be conducting interviews and processing the evidence in the coming weeks, and we anticipate significant progress in the investigation. It is hoped that this case can be brought to a conclusion soon," the agency said.

Anyone with information regarding Greenfield's disappearance is asked to contact the DNSO at 707-464-4191 or submit an anonymous tip at:https://www.co.del-norte.ca.us/departments/Sheriff
