FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) — A woman convicted of kidnapping and killing her stepson nearly 25 years ago is scheduled to meet with members of the Kentucky Parole Board.
WYMT-TV reported Stephanie Spitzer will meet with board members Wednesday via video conference. Spitzer was sentenced to life in prison in the 1992 slaying of her 10-year-old stepson, Scotty Baker. The boy was kidnapped from his school in Clay County and strangled before his body was set ablaze.
Baker’s mother, Ruth Rose, and other family members asked the parole board on Monday to keep Spitzer behind bars. Rose said she thinks every day about how her son died and believes Spitzer should serve her full sentence.
The boy’s father, Donnie Baker, has said Spitzer was jealous of the relationship he had with his son and feared the boy would distract him from the child she was carrying.
